MAN, WHO RAPED, IMPREGNATED GIRL, 13, TO PERFORM COMMUNITY SERVICE

A NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD man from Seke, Chitungwiza, will perform 245 hours of community service for raping and impregnating his 13-year-old girlfriend.

Abraham Soko said he was in a love relationship with the victim before engaging in sexual intercourse with her.

He was convicted for having sexual intercourse with a minor at his own plea of guilty.

Abraham was sentenced to 12 months before six months were suspended on condition of good behaviour, the remaining six months will see the teenager performing 245 hours of community service.

The State said sometime last year, Abraham approached the victim and proposed love to her before the two engaged in unprotected sex. After some months, the girl fell pregnant and her mother found this out, leading to Abraham’s arrest on rape charges.

The minor lost the child through a miscarriage, due to stress, after Abraham dumped her when she told him of her condition.

Abraham said:

“I was not aware of the law when we engaged in sexual intercourse, she was the one who always initiated the sex.

“I fell for her demands and committed the offence out of ignorance,” he said.
