A HARARE man was arrested at a Johanne Masowe shrine in Waterfalls in connection with the robbery of a motor vehicle.

After Lameck Kativhu was denied bail at the Harare Magistrates’ Court, he approached the High Court.

Justice Fatima Maxwell granted Kativhu $100 000 bail and ordered him not to interfere with witnesses.

The State had opposed bail arguing that robbery cases were on the rise and Kativhu was a danger to society.

According to the State, evidence linking him to the offence was strong since he was positively identified by the complainant.

The State said Kativhu was captured in CCTV footage while he was dumping the vehicle at Houghton Park Engine Service Station.

Kativhu denies all the allegations.

Through his lawyer, Liberty Gono, Kativhu said that the police and the complainant were being misled by a prophet.

“Nothing has been found with my client.

“Facts on the Form 242 are contrary to the current investigations which also show that the State has no case against my client.

“Initially, the State told the court that he was seen on the CCTV but the current affidavit from the investigating officer reveals that the pictures are not clear on the CCTV,” said Gono.

It is the State’s case that on February 15, at around 10 o’clock in the evening, the complainant was parked at Mbudzi Roundabout, waiting for clients, since he is a taxi driver.

It is alleged that Kativhu, and his accomplices, approached the complainant asking for transport to Glen Norah.

The court heard that along the way, Kativhu and his accomplices attacked the complainant and robbed him of cash and his Itel cellphone.

It is alleged they dumped the complainant before dumping the vehicle at Houghton Park Engen Service Station.
