A NYANGA man was wounded after he bravely blocked a knife, which an attacker wanted to use to stab his mother.
The attacker, Never Mwakanjumba (34), of Nyangani Park, has been sentenced to perform community service.
He appeared before Nyanga magistrate, Notebulgar Muchineripi, facing two counts of assault.
Mwakanjumba, who was not legally represented, pleaded guilty to the offence.
Muchineripi sentenced him to nine months’ imprisonment, which was wholly suspended on condition that he performs 315 hours of community service at Nyanga magistrate court.
Prosecutor Nyasha Sesenyai told the court that Mwakanjumba assaulted Hellen Nyakushira (44).
He tried to stab Hellen only for her son, Prosper, to throw himself into the line of fire.
He was then stabbed by Mwakanjumba.
“On April 1, 2026 at around 6pm, and at Nyangani Park suburb, the accused person approached Hellen Nyakushira while she was discussing her family issues with her ex-husband Tawanda Ziko.
“A misunderstanding arose and the accused person punched the complainant once on the right upper eye and she fell down.
“The complainant sustained a swollen eye.
“She screamed for help and Prosper rushed and tried to rescue her mother.
“The accused person took a knife and tried to stab Nyakushira and Prosper blocked him with his right hand and was stabbed once on the middle and index fingers with the knife.”
