A FINANCE manager employed by a local gas company, who is accused of defrauding her employer of more than US$34 000 by allegedly diverting money meant for suppliers to her personal use, was yesterday further remanded in custody.
Rumbidzai Nyamande (30), of Zin’anga Village, Ziko Dema, is employed as the finance manager at Nexus Gases in Chitungwiza.
She appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court for routine remand, where the matter was postponed to July 21 after the State indicated it was still awaiting the completion of an audit report.
The complainant is Dunexas Investments, the company that owns Nexus Gases.
The State alleges that between January 2025 and April 2026, Nyamande approached the company cashier on 27 occasions requesting cash, claiming it was required to settle outstanding payments to suppliers.
It is alleged she received a total of US$34 567,56 but allegedly converted the money to her personal use.
The State further alleges that, in an attempt to conceal the alleged fraud, Nyamande manipulated the company’s financial records and statements using her position as finance manager.
The alleged offence came to light after several suppliers approached the company demanding payment for outstanding invoices, prompting management to institute an internal audit.
The audit reportedly uncovered discrepancies in the company’s financial records and evidence that some accounting documents had been tampered with.
According to the prosecution, when management questioned Nyamande over the transactions, she allegedly failed to give a satisfactory explanation, leading to the matter being reported to the police.
The State alleges that Dunexas Investments suffered a prejudice of US$34 567.56, which has not been recovered.
