other Christians.
In Zimbabwe Christian books have become a regular sight in many bookshops as more and more church leaders are taking advantage of the power of the book to preach the gospel focusing on a wide range of scriptural themes or subjects. Of particular interest, however, is the fact that there are youths who are showing interest in writing Christian books with the aim of spreading the gospel to other youths and the elderly.
Among such youths is Kudzaishe Alois Manenji, a Lower Sixth student at Kutama College and a member of the Anglican Church, who recently published a book titled “7 Keys to Becoming a Good Christian: The Great Connection”.
The student, who also co-authored a book titled “Power of the Holy Spirit” which was published last year by Teenage Ambassadors, claims to have a passion for the gospel, and wrote his book which aims to guide people seeking to renew their relationship with God. What is mainly interesting about this young author is the fact that despite being only 17, he already shows a zeal for the gospel at a time when other teenage youths are preoccupied with secular entertainment. After reading his 140-page book, one is drawn to appreciate the author’s grasp of the scriptures coupled with his ability to illustrate ideas with examples borrowed from his personal life experiences.
Published by Veriest Solutions International in May this year, the book “7 Keys to Becoming a Good Christian; The Great Connection” comprises seven chapters which explore seven principles needed to produce a good Christian who can be a positive influence to others.
According to Manenji, the seven keys which include prayer and fasting, studying the word, fighting in the wrong battlefield, trusting the Lord, spreading the word,
thoughts and confessions, and praise and worship are principles which if applied can help prepare a Christian for heaven.
The book begins by explaining in the first chapter how prayer and fasting are important components needed by Christians to bring them closer to God.
In this book issues to do with why Christians face numerous problems despite claims that they receive God’s protection once baptised into the Christian faith are explained with illustrations from the author’s personal experiences as a young Christian.
According to Manenji, instead of applying Bible principles in dealing with life’s problems, many Christians sought to apply their own methods or wisdom which consequently expose weaknesses in their faith and relationship with God.
The book also stresses the need for a consistent study of the Bible among Christians in order to help them growing spiritually through gaining knowledge of the word of God.
While applying Bible principles in one’s daily life may be difficult for many due to wrong influences received from other forms of media, in his book, Manenji explains how studying the Bible regularly help Christians to resist sin by adjusting their lives according to the Bible. Manenji’s book also stresses the need to trust in God who alone has power to deal with any situation in life and who promises to carry out his word to those who trust in him.
Chapter Six explores issues such as the need to always speak positively in order to attract blessings from God while the last chapter underscores why Christians need to share the love of God through praise and worship.
Asked if he planned to be a full-time writer in the future, Manenji said writing Christian books was a calling for him which he had responded to as a young Christian adding that he has a passion for preaching the gospel.
“I believe God called me to be a writer. I have a passion for writing Christian books and preaching the gospel. My book is already out but I need money to have more copies printed,” said Manenji.
