GENESIS “Kaka” Mangombe bought himself more time on the Dynamos hot seat after guiding the Glamour Boys to victory in the Independence Cup final here yesterday.

The match was played before a capacity crowd.

Mangombe has been under considerable pressure after a poor start to the season and there were suggestions he would have been fired had he lost this match.

He fielded a very strong side, made of his first team players, against a Bosso side which gave a chance to many of their squad players.

Donald Mudadi scored the priceless goal in the second minute.

“We wanted to score an early goal and unsettle them. We managed to do that and I am happy with the way played,” said Mangombe.

“My players implemented the game plan well and this is really good.

“We need to win every trophy that we have a chance to pick. I am (happy) as a coach to pick my first silverware for the year 2024.

“This gives us some spring going into the league games where we are not doing well.”

He added:

“Highlanders is a strong team and they really gave us some hard running. They are a good side and being able to beat them is really motivating.

“We gave our fans something to cheer (them).”

Bosso coach, Kelvin Kaindu, said conceding early proved to be their Achilles Heel.

“We conceded early and from then we were rushing our passes as we desperately sought to get an equaliser,” said Kaindu.

“But we did stretch them. I am disappointed with the result but happy with the performance of our team.”

Dynamos pocketed US$25 000 while Bosso went home US$15 000 richer.
