A farmer from Mangwe District in Matabeleland South donated US$7 000 to the province to facilitate the smooth running of the 46th national Independence Day celebrations, which were held in Maphisa, Matobo District, today.

Mr Jabulani “Mangwana” Tshuma, son to the late Retired Colonel James Mangwana Tshuma who was a successful Highlanders chairman with four consecutive four-year wins during his time, has together with his partner Mr Andre Zietsman donated towards the independence celebration by grading an 85km road from Marula to Kezi via Maphaneni Ranch. The work was completed on 4 April 2026.

The duo also donated 10 beasts and 2 000 litres of fuel, which was converted to cash, each valued at US$500 and fuel worth about US$2,000. The total cash amounting to US $7,000 was handed over to the Mangwe District ZANU PF District Coordinating Committee (DCC) chairman, Cde Bakani Nleya, on Friday.

“I can confirm that I have received an amount of US$7 000 from Jabu Mangwana as a donation towards the 46th independence celebration to be held in Maphisa. Together with his partner they graded the road from Marula to Kezi in order to assist travellers to Maphisa who will use the route.

“We are very thankful to receive such a donation from our district. We have earlier this week received another donation of two beasts from a local stakeholder, Mr Charles ‘Kombani’ Moyo. The donation was handed over to the Mangwe District Development Coordinator (DDC),” said Cde Nleya.

Mr Brighton Ndebele, personal assistant Industry and Commerce Minister, Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndlovu who is also Zanu PF chairman for Matabeleland South, was present to witness the donation.

“I have come here to witness and collect the donation. This is one of the donations the province has received from Mangwe District. We have, however, received other stashes of donations. We will use these donations towards the 46th independence celebrations at Maphisa, Matobo District,” he said.
