POLICE have launched a manhunt for a gang of six machete wielding robbers who attacked a family at their home before robbing them of US$87 000 and R38 000 and some electronic gadgets.
In a statement, National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident which occurred on Tuesday on a mine and farm premises in Esigodini.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating an armed robbery case which occurred in Esigodini where a gang of six suspects attacked a family with machetes and a bolt cutter at their mine and farm premises.
“The suspects used a bolt cutter to break burglar bars of a sitting room window and went on to tie the two complainants with an electric cable and shoe laces before ransacking the house.
“Complainants were robbed of US$87 000 and R38 800 which was in a safe, four Samsung Galaxy tablet cell phones, a Samsung laptop and a 32 gig flash,” said Asst Comm Nyathi in the statement.
He urged business owners including miners to be on the alert and avoid keeping large sums of money at their homes.
He also appealed to members of the public with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact the police.-@DubeMatutu
