IN a positive development that is set to benefit local dancehall chanters and boost their popularity, a dancehall riddim, Manica Baseline, which features more than 10 dancehall artistes in Mutare, will be launched this month.
The riddim was produced by renowned Harare-based producers Cashlibz Records and Dollar Gettaz and it features talented dancehall musicians such as Preen King, Soul Jah Tee, Attraction Kid, Killer Bee and King Vegaz, among other musicians.
Acon Bee, a 19-year-old Dangamvura teenager and musician who composed a single track, Mhere Mhere, following the controversy that surrounds strange creatures that dropped from a ceiling at a Dangamvura house early this year, also features on the riddim.
The dancehall musicians formed a group called Attraktion Clan.
In an interview recently, the group manager, Edmore Musa, said they decided to come together in a bid to promote both the genre and artistes.
“Dancehall artistes based in Mutare are very talented and we cannot sit down and watch their talents going down the drain. They need support and recognition and by forming a group and coming together in a riddim like this makes our dream come true. Thanks to Cashlibz Records, they have managed to explore their singing prowess to the world through the first ever riddim in Mutare,” he said.
He called for support from established artistes as well as fans.
“This is the first ever dancehall collaboration so we call for support from the public to make this riddim and dancehall aspirations a success,” said Mussa.
Body Slam and No Mercy are some of the most popular riddims in Zimbabwe and dancehall giants like Tocky Vibes, Soul Jah Love, She Calaz and Shinsoman have gained popularity through them.
