MANICA Diamonds top man, Fortune Bhinzi, could not celebrate his team’s first triumph of the season at Sakubva Stadium today after receiving the sad news of his mother’s death soon after the final whistle.
Manica Diamonds won 3-1 against Agama FC in a Castle Lager Premiership match that both teams, holed at the basement of the table, badly needed to win.
But just after the final whistle, forceful striker Bhinzi was seen being hurriedly ushered out of the stadium still wearing his uniform ostensibly to rush home for his mother’s funeral.
Manica Diamonds chairman, Masimba Chihowa, who confirmed the death of their player’s mother, said they will certainly stand by the player through this painful period.
“It is sad that we received the death of Fortune Bhinzi ‘s mother soon after the final whistle. It’s sad. We just could not celebrate the victory well having received such sad news. We will be with the player and console him during this difficult period,” said Chihowa.
In some past match interviews, Manica Diamonds coach, Patrick Mandizha heaved a huge sigh of relief after the final whistle.
“This was a well deserved win and what makes it sweeter is that it happens when we have just returned to our home ground Sakubva Stadium. This result will go a long way in helping the team fight its way out of the bottom part of the table,” he said
His opposite number Takaendesa Jongwe said: “It was a bad day in the office. We could have done better but it is what it is. We just have to fight on.”
