Manicaland, Masvingo receive heavy rains

A cloud system has brought heavy rains to the southern regions of Manicaland and Masvingo provinces.

According to the Meteorological Services Department (MSD), significant rainfall was recorded in several areas, with the highest measurements reported in Chimanimani Ward 10A – Chikukwa (148 mm), followed by Makohoholi (107 mm), and Chimanimani Ward 4 – Nhedziwa (106 mm).

A total of 102 mm was recorded at both Chisengu and the Chimanimani met offices, Chayamiti in Manicaland (97 mm), Ngorima in Manicaland (75 mm), Ndima in Manicaland (74 mm), Rusape (64 mm) and Mukandi (55 mm).

The department said as the weather continues to develop, cloudy and mild conditions, with widespread thunderstorms were expected, particularly in parts of Masvingo, Midlands, Manicaland, and Mashonaland East provinces.

“In light of the heavy rainfall and potential thunderstorms, the public is urged to take precautions,” the department said.

“ It is advisable to seek proper shelter during storms, avoid crossing flooded rivers and low-lying bridges, and secure property and infrastructure vulnerable to heavy rain.

“Additionally, residents should remain informed by following local weather bulletins for any further updates and alerts.”
