AFRO-FUSION outfit, Vibrant Band, will represent Manicaland at the 2024 Chibuku Road to Fame national finals scheduled for November 9 in Harare at a venue to be advised.
The group outclassed nine other groups at the contest held at Mandel Beerhall in Watsomba last weekend.
Sungura outfit Mutare Super Stars came second while ASG Band from Nyanga was voted third.
Afro jazz outfit, Walk of Life, won the Matabeleland North provincial finals held at Lwendulu Beerhall in Hwange last weekend.
Shantani and Kweseka came second and third respectively.
Vibrant Band and Walk of Life join other provincial finalists vying for the US$15 000 prize money at national level.
Other groups that have made it to the finals include Music to Music from Bulawayo, Pilgrims of Christ (Mashonaland East), The Outlaws (Harare) Fugues Band (Matabeleland South), The Cousin (Midlands) and Shanty Town (Mashonaland Central).
Masvingo’s representatives will be selected this weekend at Chihambakwe Beerhall in Triangle.
Running under the theme ‘Bviravira, Tshayi Ngoma’, the talent search programme is being organised by Delta Beverages in conjunction with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe
As the countdown to the national event reaches fever pitch, organisers have said they are anticipating a tight contest.
Winners at national level will receive US$15 000 plus a recording contract, while the second and third finalists will win US$7 500 and US$5 000 respectively.
Midlands Afro-fusion outfit, 911 Band, won last year’s edition.
Besides empowering finalists with prize money and recording contracts, the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe equips groups with the knowledge and expertise needed in the game.
