THE Board of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has appointed Dr George Munyaradzi Manyaya as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective February 1, 2026.

The appointment comes as the Government intensifies its efforts to accelerate tourism-led economic growth under the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and Vision 2030.

Dr Manyaya, a seasoned strategist with a background in marketing and corporate governance, succeeds the interim leadership with a clear mandate to reposition the nation as a premier global destination.

In a statement announcing the move, the ZTA Board expressed high confidence in the new appointee’s ability to navigate the complexities of the global travel market.

”Dr Manyaya brings strong academic credentials, strategic leadership, and extensive multisectoral experience,” reads part of the statement. “His mandate includes positioning Zimbabwe as a competitive tourist destination, driving tourism development, and facilitating sustainable investment for national growth.”

Dr Manyaya joins the ZTA from ZESA Holdings, where he was the General Manager responsible for Marketing, Communications, and Stakeholder Relations.

He also currently serves as the Chairman of the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA), where he has been credited with leading successful rebranding, governance, and modernisation initiatives.

His career spans several sectors critical to tourism infrastructure, including aviation, transport, energy, and telecommunications.

Dr Manyaya also previously served as a Tourism Brand Ambassador and was a key member of the Organizing Committee for the 2013 UNWTO General Assembly.

He holds a Doctorate in Business Management, a Master of Science in International Relations, and a Master’s Degree in Strategic Management and Corporate Governance.
