CHARLES Manyuchi has fought champions and conquered continents, but the legacy he wants most now lies outside the ring.
As he celebrates 15 years in professional boxing, the former World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver welterweight champion says his final ambition is to build the sport’s future.
“I am always thinking about the next generation of boxers,” Manyuchi told Zimpapers Sports Hub from his base in Masvingo.
Turning professional in February 2009, the man nicknamed Busy Bee racked up 30 wins, five losses and a draw. At his peak he was ranked the world’s No. 3 welterweight by the WBC, a status he sealed in 2016 when he captured the coveted WBC Silver belt, just a step below the one once held by Floyd Mayweather.
Now approaching 37, Manyuchi admits he is in the twilight of his fighting years. “I still can go strong for a few more years,” he said, “but my heart is in development and promotion.”
His next big move speaks to that. On October 31 he will stage a tournament in Chivhu dubbed Knockout For A Cause, set for Phil Jen Country Lodges.
The bill includes local names like Tinashe “Chairman” Madziwane, Clever Sithole and Jeremiah “Jingo” Mhere, plus fighters from Malawi and Zambia.
