Mapeza wary of MWOS threat

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza(pictured), is wary of the threat posed by early pacesetters MWOS, whom they face on Saturday in a Castle Lager Premier League match at Mandava Stadium.

MWOS occupy pole position on the log standings with seven points from three matches.
Mapeza believes that the Lloyd Mutasa-coached side should not be underestimated, as they are showing signs of being a quality team.

So far, MWOS have stunned former league champions Highlanders, drawn against Bikita Minerals and dispatched Yadah in their last encounter.

Mapeza insists that MWOS’s position at the top of the table is no fluke and stresses that his side must be at their very best on Saturday.

“They have been scoring goals; they played two games at home and one away, and they have been scoring,” he told the media in his pre-match press conference.

“We are playing a quality side, a very good side… The signs are already there, and everybody can see their project. We know the dangers we are going to face on Saturday.”

The former Warriors coach, whose side currently sits fifth on the log table, has repeatedly expressed concerns over the lack of prolific goalscorers in Zimbabwean football.

Zvishavane-based FC Platinum have managed to score only two goals in their three matches so far, and Mapeza says they have used the international break to work on their attacking struggles.

“The break gave us an opportunity to rectify our mistakes, polish our squad, and address the weaknesses we had in our previous matches.

“The biggest challenge we have now is not only at FC Platinum—it’s a nationwide issue. We need players who can score goals.
“Come Saturday, with what we have seen and what we have been working on in training, the goals will come,” he added.
