Mapfumo’s young brother, percussionist dies

Chimurenga music Thomas Mapfumo’s handlers have announced on social media that one of the longest serving members of his Blacks Unlimited Band, percussionist Lancelot Mapfumo, has died.

He was 68.

A young brother to Thomas, his family described Lancelot as a great loss to the arts industry.

“We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved icon Lancelot Mapfumo,” read a statement on social media.

“He was younger brother to the great Thomas Mapfumo. He played several instruments, including congas and keyboards.

“He was a dedicated family man. Rest in peace baba vedu. Our icon.”

Details of the funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
