THE Mapopoma Festival is set to make a comeback this year. It will revert to its traditional month of December with a new partner, CookOutzw being roped in.

After failing to take place in December 2021, the festival that is held in Victoria Falls took place during the Easter period last year. To mark its fifth edition, event organisers have said the festival will retain the December 29 to 31 dates.

On the first day, revellers will be treated to an event dubbed “Home Brewed Day” followed by the “CookOutzw” event the next day.

The festival will wrap up with an Ubuntu concert that will usher people into the New Year. This will be the first CookOutzw event to be held in the resort city as the event is held in Harare.

The Mapopoma Festival will have a new twist this year as attendees will be treated to an onsite camping facility at the venue — Baobab Primary School.

The festival’s founder, Patrick Musonza said preparations are well underway.

“In December, all roads will lead to Victoria Falls for the fifth edition of the Mapopoma Festival as we can now gather post Covid-19 restrictions. It’s going to be an outdoor event with a lot of exciting activities lined up.

“These include Health and Fitness with Celebrity Zumba Guru ZORRO to breakaway events such as a secret location party, boat party, and plenty day time entertainment,” said Musonza.

He said their partnership with CookOutzw will boost the image of the festival taking note that CookOutzw is a nationally acclaimed event.

“We’ve partnered with CookOutzw, the biggest daytime event in Zimbabwe and we’re also introducing Campville onsite accommodation. Campville will be a camping village on the festival grounds with an exciting atmosphere, game bar experience, card and board games, pool tables, volleyball restaurants, bakery and spa all on-site,” he said.

He added that the themes they have come up with for the three days will ensure that revellers have a great experience.

Organisers have begun unveiling artistes who will be performing and among these are Feli Nandi, Holy Ten and Shabach the band. —@mthabisi_mthire
