VETERAN Jazz and Marabi musician Jeys Marabini has hinted at a possible collaboration with Sungura musician Mark Ngwazi after the younger artiste approached him with a proposal to record a song together.

Marabini welcomed the idea, saying they would work on the project when their schedules allow, raising hopes of a musical partnership between two artistes from different generations and genres.

The two musicians met on the sidelines of this year’s Anti-Sanctions Musical Gala, held at Chipadze Stadium in Bindura, Mashonaland Central Province, on Saturday, 24 October.

Organised by the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, the annual event marked the SADC Anti-Sanctions Solidarity Day, which calls for the unconditional removal of trade and economic sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.

Taking to social media after the event, Marabini revealed that Ngwazi had expressed interest in working with him, describing the Sungura musician as a humble individual.

“I shared the stage with Mark Ngwazi this last weekend. He said to me, ‘Mdala Jeys, let’s record a song together.’ I said its fine. Once we get time, we will do it. We had a great time together. What a humble guy,” Marabini posted.

The prospect of the collaboration has been welcomed by fans, with many expressing hope that the two musicians will turn the proposal into a studio project.

Some followers said the partnership would bring together Marabini’s experience in Jazz, with Ngwazi’s Sungura sound, potentially appealing to audiences across generations.

Rojen Masiyiwa praised Marabini for his humility and willingness to work with the younger musician.

“For him to be able to approach you and talk about doing a song together, it simply shows how humble you are, Marabini. Much respect to you, Bra Jay. Give the young man a chance,” he commented.

Another follower, Energy Rundare, also applauded the veteran musician for being receptive to Ngwazi’s proposal.

“You are the one who is very humble, Sir Marabini. You are a legend, yet you choose to grant him his request,” he said.

Although no recording date or further details have been announced, the proposed collaboration has already generated excitement among fans eager to hear what the two musicians could create together.
