Mare pays tribute to mum

June this year, is a dedication to her mother who passed away last year after succumbing to bone cancer.
The singles, titled “Zuva Rimwe” and “Hatina Musha”, are currently receiving heavy rotation on local radio stations.
Mare says that the tracks were reminiscent of the lullabies that her mother used to sing for her during her childhood.
“I did these songs from the album (Nziyo Dzaidiwa Naamai) in memory of my mother who always sang to me before bedtime,” she said.
The 26-year-old shot to fame when she performed the song “Catch Me When I Fall”, during the Akon and Sean Paul show held on September 4, 2010 at the National Sports Stadium.
She was also an opening act at Sean Paul’s show at O2 Academy in Bristol on August 4, last year.
In her song “Zuva Rimwe”, Mare touches the soul as she asks God for another chance to talk to her mother.
The sotto voice in the other single “Hatina Musha” which she did with Zim Gospel Choir vividly brings out a sombre picture of her loss.
Since she started music, Mare has won several accolades that include the BEFFTA and the Zim Awards where she scooped the Best UK-Afro and Best African female categories respectively, and was nominated in the Zimbabwean Achievers Awards in UK.
Commenting on her third album, she said: “It is about being really who I am, that is why I came back home to release the album, which I dedicate to my late mother.
Following her mother’s death, Mare has since joined hands with the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe to help raise awareness of the disease.
“After my mother’s death I was concerned by the level of awareness people have about cancer. I decided to join hands with the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe.
“I was also touched by this other lady who happens to be a cancer survivor and is part of the awareness initiative,” she said. Mare joined the trek to the United Kingdom in 1999 where she trained as a nurse.
