A 25-year-old Budiriro man on Saturday attempted to commit suicide after consuming an illicit beer.
Mark Nyamayaro, not related to the writer, was rescued by well-wisher after he broke an empty bottle and cut his throat.
He sustained neck injuries.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case.
“Police are investigating an attempted suicide case in Budiriro.
“The victim confessed to have consumed “mutoriro” at Machipisa Shopping Centre in Highfield.
“He was rushed to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital in the company of his father,” said Insp Chakanza.
His father Howard Nyamayaro said it was Mark’s second time to cut himself after consuming illicit beer.
In the first incident, he broke an empty bottle and cut his left hand.
The incident drew attention of people at Current Shopping Centre in Budiriro.
