A MARRIED 31-year-old Masvingo taxi driver allegedly committed suicide at his girlfriend’s house following a dispute with his wife over child support. Danai Musiza’s girlfriend, Patience Mugabe, 26, of Mucheke suburb confirmed that her lover killed himself at her house while she was at work.
Mugabe said she found Musiza’s body on the bed when she returned from work on Friday night.
“On the fateful day I found Danai dead on my bed. I also saw a sachet with the poison, said to be a pesticide by the police, next to him,” said the distraught Mugabe.
Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula could not immediately comment on the incident.
Neighbours say Musiza had been summoned to court in connection with a maintenance application made by his wife.
“Musiza could have been emotionally disturbed by his wife’s decision to sue him for maintenance hence his decision to commit suicide.
“The man had been having some marital problems with his wife and it could be the reason why he moved in with Mugabe,” said a neighbour identified only as Memory.
She claimed Musiza moved in with his girlfriend sometime in March.
“Musiza came to this neighbourhood three months back and the two were now living as husband and wife. He was the one who was now paying rent,” she said.
“Before that he lived with his wife in Majange and they had one child. As far as we know the two hadn’t officially divorced but it was just separation because they often talked to each other without any sign that they weren’t living together.”
