Masarirevhu wins big at Roosters Club

LEFT arm spinner Isaiah Masarirevhu took the Roosters Cricket Club’s Most Valuable Player of the season accolade at an awards ceremony recently held at Queens Sports Club.

With Roosters having won the Bulawayo Metropolitan Cricket Association First League for the second year running, the club decided to honour its outstanding players for the 2017/18 season.

Masarirevhu was, according to statistics, the best all rounder and second wicket taker in the province as well as number fielder in Bulawayo. He also picked up the Players Player of the Year prize, which was voted for by other players at the club.

Pace bowler Sheanopa Musekwa walked away with the bowler of the season for his 38 wickets which saw him being the highest wicket taker in Bulawayo.

Wicketkeeper Shoun Handirisi won the Batsman of the Year prize for being the third highest run scorer in the province behind Senyo Nyakutse and Brian Chari. Handirisi was also voted best fielder for being the best wicketkeeper and his number had the second highest catches in the province.

Mthandazo Moyo got the chairman’s award for discipline on and off the field. Moyo is a decent batsman and wicketkeeper.

Ian Netha, a young upcoming and promising pace bowler coming from the third league played well enough to get Roosters Rookie of the Year accolade.

The winning players got their awards in the form of playing equipment and miniature trophies.

Chairperson of the National University of Science and Technology Sports Science Department, Sipho Rutsate was the guest of honour at the colourful occasion graced by the BMCA chairman Vumindaba Moyo, provincial administrator Nicholas Singo as well as Sports and Recreation Commission Bulawayo coordinator Sam Dzimbu.
