Sprinter Faith Dube put out a spirited performance for Team Zimbabwe as she won three silver medals at the recently ended Confederation of University and College Sport Association games held at Botswana.

The athlete, who now has a total number of 12 medals this season got her medals in the finals of the women’s 200m, 400m where she clocked her personal best time of 56,00 sec and in 4100m relay.

Dube said she was pleased by her triumph taking into consideration that this was her last year competing at one of the most converted tertiary games in Africa.

“What a way to bring to an end a colourful tertiary games career. I am greatly pleased by my triumph because I have been training hard for these games, the personal best time that I clocked in the final of the 400m adds a little spice to the already sweet victory,” she said.

Dube, who trains under Body Works gym, said she attributes most of her success in Botswana to the gym owners who are also her sponsors.

“I would like to give thanks to one of my sponsors, Body Works gym for their undying support that they have been offering me in my career as an athlete, without them I don’t think I would have been able to reach such higher fitness levels,” said Dube.

Aside from being an athlete, Dube also secured a National Diploma in Electrical Power Engineering at Bulawayo Polytechnic College in May and is waiting to graduate before year end.

Zimbabwe came out second position at the CUCSA games after managing to get a total of 28 medals with 18 of those coming from the athletics team. The men darts and tennis teams managed to get three gold medals each while the men’s rugby team, ladies volleyball team and men volleyball team managed to get one gold medal each. Neighbours South Africa emerged victorious while host Botswana settled for second position.

Dube has also set her eyes on qualifying for the African Senior Athletics Championships to be held in Nigeria next month.

“My next target is to qualify for the championships to be held in Nigeria next month. I am working very hard towards achieving that goal for it is every African athlete’s dream to compete in the championships,” she said.
