Mashonaland East Province has vowed to carve its mark in the development of the economy in line with the devolution thrust being pursued in the Second Republic.
In his welcome speech at the Zanu-PF Annual National People’s Conference, the ruling party’s Mashonaland East provincial chairperson Cde Joel Biggie Matiza said the province sat on numerous economic boosting opportunities. The conference opened in Goromonzi yesterday and ends today.
The event is anchored on deliberations on economic development. Government has since set aside $310 million towards devolution which will see provinces leverage on their various economic opportunities to contribute towards national development.
“Firstly, I would like to extend a warm welcome to you all on behalf of Mashonaland East Province to this 18th ZANU-PF Annual People’s Conference being held here in Goromonzi under the theme ‘Modernise, Mechanise, and Grow the Economy Towards Vision 2030’,” said Cde Matiza.
“As a province, we are delighted and very much grateful to His Excellency, the President Cde E.D Mnangagwa for giving us an opportunity to host this great Zanu-PF Annual Indaba at a time when the economy is transforming towards the attainment of Vision 2030 in the Second Republic of Zimbabwe.
“A new chapter is being written for Zanu-PF party, the nation and people at large.
“Truly, we are emerging from protracted struggles and challenges upon which more light is being shed. Greater unity, new solutions and approaches are being fostered and implemented to increase momentum towards attainment of His Excellency’s 2030 national vision of an upper-middle income economy.”
Cde Matiza thanked the President for economic empowerment projects being implemented for women and youths in the province in areas such as mining, agriculture and manufacturing.
In her welcome remarks, Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Cde Apolonia Munzverengwi said Mashonaland East Province was endowed with resources that could help develop the economy. “The province boasts of several investment opportunities and is open for business,” she said.
The major economic activities in Mashonaland East Province are agriculture, tourism, mining and manufacturing.
Cde Munzverengwi said manufacturing also takes place in urban and peri-urban centres of the province adding that the community bakery project initiated by the ruling party had already started bearing fruits.
