Stakeholders from Mashonaland West have gathered in Kadoma to review the implementation of programmes that are running as part of National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1).
Mashonaland West is pushing to consolidate its position as the province with the third largest contribution to the National Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Officially opening the workshop, Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo said proper planning is needed to meet NDS1 targets.
“Through proper planning, the Provincial Development Committee can successfully implement NDS1 through the Provincial Economic Development Plan (PEDP),” she said.
“To date, we have achieved a lot as the third-placed province in terms of provincial GDP which sits at 27,1 billion, with a growth rate of 4,2 percent. This is according to the 2023 provincial GDP statistics from ZIMSTAT.”
Minister Chombo implored Thematic Working Groups’ chairpersons to embrace the whole-of-economy approach and to work closely with the private sector.
She said development plans should be data-driven, adding that collection of information from the grassroots is important.
“I urge you to ensure that sufficient and reliable data is availed from the grassroots where socio-economic activities take place. By so doing, we ensure that no one and no place is left behind,” she said.
Minister Chombo said the province should leverage its comparative advantage to unlock investment opportunities within the province.
