ZANU PF Mashonaland West Province has tabled 26 resolutions for consideration at the ruling party’s Annual National People’s Conference to be held in Chinhoyi in October.
The resolutions were among key issues discussed at two provincial meetings held this week — the Provincial Coordinating Committee and the Provincial Inter-District — which brought together party leaders and grassroots members.
The meetings also assessed the province’s state of preparedness to host the conference, with party structures urged to accelerate membership verification as Zanu PF moves towards full digitisation of its records.
Among the resolutions is the unequivocal endorsement of President and First Secretary Cde Mnangagwa as the party’s preferred candidate for election as First Secretary and President of Zanu PF at the next party congress.
It also resolved that the Zanu PF constitution be reviewed and aligned, where necessary, with the Constitution of Zimbabwe, as amended, including provisions relating to the tenure and electoral cycles of party structures.
The proposed alignment is intended to promote constitutional harmony, institutional consistency, stability and continuity.
The province also tabled a resolution calling for the expeditious implementation of Constitutional Amendment Act No. 3, in accordance with the Constitution, applicable legislation and established party procedures.
Speaking on Saturday during the meeting in Chinhoyi, Politburo member Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi said that while the province had included Constitutional Amendment Act No. 3 among its resolutions, Government had already begun implementing some provisions of the legislation.
He cited the forwarding of senatorial candidates’ names to Parliament and the transfer of the voters’ roll from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to the Registrar-General’s Office as some of the measures already underway.
“I am happy with the quality of the resolutions coming from Mashonaland West ahead of the National Annual People’s Conference. As Government, we are already implementing the Constitution Amendment Act No. 3, and a number of its provisions are already underway,” he said.
Cde Ziyambi said the party was also expediting the digitisation of its day-to-day operations, saying the move would help curb corruption and improve accountability.
He challenged the province to accelerate membership verification and correction of records, saying information for about 272 000 members had reportedly been captured incorrectly.
“We need to speed up the membership verification exercise because we want to digitise our database and ensure that the information we have accurately reflects the actual membership of the party,” he said.
“A verified and reliable database will assist us in targeted programming, effective communication and messaging, revenue collection and, most importantly, the consolidation of a comprehensive national database.”
Cde Ziyambi said the exercise was critical to the party’s organisational development and planning.
Members were also commended for supporting the recently enacted Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment Act No. 3, with party leaders saying some of its provisions were already being implemented.
Provincial chairperson Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka thanked the people of Mashonaland West for supporting the constitutional amendment.
“I want to thank the people of Mashonaland West for endorsing the Constitution Amendment Act No. 3, which is now law. Your support demonstrated the confidence and commitment of the people of this province towards the legislative changes,” she said.
She said the support had also contributed to her recommendation by President Mnangagwa to serve as a senator.
Meanwhile, Zanu PF National Resource Mobilisation chairperson Cde Philip Chiyangwa said resources mobilised towards hosting the conference had a combined value exceeding the US$1 million target.
“We have so far raised at least US$100 000 in cash, while other resources, including cattle, sheep, maize, chickens, pigs and various other contributions, have also been mobilised.
“When we put a value to all these resources and combine the different forms of support received, I can safely say that the total value has exceeded US$1 million,” he said.
The meetings were also attended by a six-member delegation from the Zanu PF Council of Elders, led by former Health Minister Dr David Parirenyatwa.
The delegation engaged provincial party leadership and members on organisational development, party unity and preparations for the National Annual People’s Conference.
