FOUR armed robbers in balaclavas pounced on an Emganwini family on Tuesday night, making off with thousands in cash and their getaway vehicle.
The 39-year-old man, his 36-year-old wife and their 22-year-old nephew had just arrived home from Bulawayo CBD when the gang struck at around 8.15pm.
“They approached before the victims could shut the gate and ordered them out of their white Nissan Caravan at gunpoint,” said Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele.
One suspect reversed the vehicle out of the yard while the others frog-marched the trio into the house. The robbers ransacked the home, taking US$3 290 and R250 before locking the victims in a bedroom and driving off.
“The public is urged not to carry large sums of money or let others know they have cash and to be vigilant at all times,” said Insp Msebele.
Neighbours later freed the family and a report was made to police. Anyone with information is urged to contact the nearest police station.
