Massive Combination win Masvingo leg of Road to Fame

The Four Brigade musical outfit which presented a polished act will represent Masvingo province on 29 September at Glamis Arena in Harare at the national finals.

The event which was graced by National Arts Council of Zimbabwe director Elvas Mari saw seven out of the expected 10 musical groups battling it out in the tightly contested competition.

Three groups dropped out at the 11th hour citing challenges ranging from transport to lack of instruments.

For coming top, the group went home $1 000 richer with the second and third getting $500 and $300 respectively.

The second best group was a traditional musical group, Dzimba Dzamambwe Sounds from Mbungo, while, Mukonde United Brothers from Bondolfi, came third.

The provincial arts manager for NACZ, Helen Mudefe, said this year’s finals were much better despite the fact that some groups did not turn up.

“We had an improved competition this year compared to last year and the competition was stiff.

“Regardless that three groups which we would have loved to be part of the competitions dropped out at the last minute, the provincial finals were better than the previous years.

“However, we discovered that some groups still have a challenge in sharpening their vocal skills.

“They have difficulties in balancing their voices with the guitars, something that makes their act unconvincing,” said Mudefe.

Mari urged artistes to join Celebrity Insurance cover so that they could get funeral cover.

“You should join funeral schemes like Celebrity Insurance Cover so that in times of funerals, you can have decent burials.

“I also encourage groups to perfect their skills so that they stand a chance to get recording contracts.

“Lastly, I want to congratulate the winners today and I wish them well at the national finals,” said Mari.

Celebrity Insurance Cover was mooted by Nacz after a string of artistes’ families were failing to meet burial expenses after the death of some artistes.

Other groups that took part are, an Afro Jazz group, Zigzag Band from Zaka, Song of Africa, which is a local group, Home of Music from Gutu and Afro Image.
