The club has so far amassed 26 points. They need just eight points from 16 matches to surpass last year’s tally.
This was after his club edged Harare City 1-0 on Sunday. Masomere added that the championship race was still wide open.
“I can now confirm that I have survived relegation. I am now fighting hard to finish in a better position at the end of the season. I am not really worried about how other teams above me are playing but my wish is to continue picking up points,” said the elated former Masvingo coach.
Shabanie Mine survived relegation by a whisker last season when they only managed 34 points, winning 2-0 in a surprise result against Highlanders.
They were tied with neighbours Masvingo but stayed up because of a better goal difference.
Shabanie were given a mandate by Vadette Trading to pick up 25 points in the first half of the season and Masomere went further by collecting a point more and it is the tonic the fans in the town wanted.
Shabanie beat the Sunshine City Boys through a solitary strike by man of the moment Nelson Maziwisa who scored his 12th goal of the season.
The result was sweet music and Masomere gave his players a holiday after the victory and they will only start training on Thursday. The players will however be meeting daily for lunch at Madeira Corner, a restaurant run by Vaddette Trading who are sponsoring the team’s accommodation for all their away matches as well as lunch for the players during their training days.
Masomere won the league championship with AmaZulu and on several occasions missed the big prize when he was with Masvingo. He also had stints with Dynamos and Caps United but it is the team he has assembled at Shabanie that has seen several clubs chasing his signature.
Rumours have already started circulating that he is being lured by FC Platinum.
Shabanie have no big names in their squad but rely on teamwork. They only managed to sign Maziwisa, Raymond Sibanda, Pervington Zimunya, Erea Phiri, Simon Choenda and blended them with the likes of Caleb Masocha, Rodney Mwale, Tarisai Rukanda, Lennon Chisunga, Roy Mazingi and Victor Twaliki and the results are coming for the Chinda Boys though they lack an attacking midfielder in their team who can take the ball from deep up to the forwards and opposition third.
