Masvingo agric show kicks off

ALL is set for the 2017 Masvingo Provincial Agricultural show, which begins today with organisers saying the event has received an overwhelming number of exhibitors compared to the previous edition.

The show, being held under the theme, “Transforming and sustaining economic growth” will end on Sunday.

Last year the event had 72 exhibitors taking part.

Masvingo Show Society president, Mr Phillip Mauta, said the 78th edition show has attracted many new companies including Government departments that rarely took part in previous years.

“Preparations for the 2017 edition of the Masvingo Agricultural Show are now at an advanced stage. We have so far registered 114 exhibitors from 72 that we had last year,” said Mr Mauta.

He said most exhibitors had refurbished their stands in readiness for the provincial trade showcase.

“Our 2017 show promises to be bigger and better given the fact that there are many new organisations registering. This year’s show is oversubscribed that most exhibitors will be pitching tents on open spaces,” he said.

He attributed the overwhelming response to the success of Command Agriculture, which has seen most farmers achieving a bumper harvest.

“We hail Government’s Command Agriculture, which has seen many farmers achieving bumper harvests. We have many farmers exhibiting this year than in yester-years because of this noble programme, which has addressed issues of food security,” he said.
