ZANU-PF Masvingo province has co-opted some party members into the provincial executive to fill vacant posts as the party gears for next year’s general elections.
Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial secretary for information and publicity Cde Ronald Ndava said the co-option was done during a provincial meeting on Sunday.
“Our provincial executive was not fully constituted. We had a closed door executive meeting on Sunday where we co-opted and elevated some of our members to vacant positions,” said Cde Ndava.
He said the former provincial youth political commissar, Cde Brian Munyoro was co-opted to the position of secretary for administration.
Cde Amasa Nhenjana who once acted as the provincial chairman following the suspension of Cde Ezra Chadzamira last year reverted to his provincial secretary for security position.
Former secretary for administration, Cde Ailes Baloyi was elevated to the position of provincial vice chairman and will be deputising Cde Chadzamira following his re-election.
Cde Ndava dismissed media reports which suggested that some members were demoted due to factionalism.
“We are disturbed to learn some unscrupulous members are entertaining the private media peddling falsehoods on what transpired during the executive meeting. The truth of the matter is that we have not reshuffled our executive or demoted some of our members on factional lines,” he said.
Cde Ndava said registration of members as voters at biometric voter registration district centres in readiness for the 2008 general elections was also discussed during the meeting.
