Masvingo city commission vows to deliver

The recently-appointed commission running the affairs of Masvingo City Council has vowed to arrest the deteriorating service delivery in the country’s oldest town.

Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister Cde July Moyo last month appointed commissions to run local authorities and town boards across the country, in the interim, while waiting for the swearing-in of councillors voted into office in the July 30 harmonised polls.

Minister Moyo appointed Cde Goddard Dunira, as the chairman of Masvingo City Commission and he is deputised by Masvingo District Administrator Mr Roy Hove and Mr Christopher Mutsenyi. Mr Dunira last week said the commission was going to ensure that council’s books were audited to measure the local authority’s financial propriety in the last term.

“Our first port of call, as a commission is to have the financial books of the local authority audited as we seek to ensure that there is financial prudence within the local authority’s administration,” said Cde Dunira.

He said as the commission comprised persons of integrity his team was not going to be overwhelmed by the load lying ahead.

“I believe all commissioners appointed by the minister have some special expertise, which will take council to another level,” he said.
