Masvingo lures waste recycling firms

Masvingo Correspondent
Masvingo City Council has urged waste recycling companies to partner it in the disposal of waste to keep the country’s oldest city clean.

The call comes amid concerns by the city fathers over the proliferation of poorly disposed waste in most parts of the city.

In his address during a tour of Mucheke dumpsite recently, Masvingo City Chief Health and Environmental officer Mr Zvapano Munganasa said his council welcomed waste recycling firms to help maintain a clean environment. He said in line with the “Zimbabwe is open for business” mantra, his council was also open to partnerships with firms prepared to fight the proliferation of waste.

“Masvingo City Council is open for business for those who are into recycling, be it of papers, PET bottles, empty bottles or car bodies, our concern is to make the city clean,” he said.

“We were facing challenges of too many car wreckages in the suburbs, but we were approached by some partners from Harare who are recycling the wreckages and taking them to Harare, they have extracted 11 tonnes of scrap that be disposed soon.”

Mr Munganasa urged residents to dump vehicle wreckages at the city’s dumpsites dotted around the city.
