Masvingo pair fined for killing crocodile

TWO men from Masvingo were each ordered to pay a fine of $100 or 30 days in prison after being found guilty of killing a crocodile in Shashe River.
The pair was also ordered to pay $750 to National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority as compensation.
Tawanda Marinda (41) and Absy Goto (38) both of Plot 44 Shashe Block,Chidzikwe who were jointly charged, pleaded guilty to contravening provisions of the Parks and Wildlife Act when they appeared before Masvingo magistrate Mr Timeon Makunde yesterday.

For the State, Ms Shamiso Masokovere said sometime in August last year, Marinda and Goto removed and killed a crocodile from Shashe River using an unknown object.

The pair burnt the reptile’s carcass before burying the remains on the river bank.
On 26 May this year, Marinda had a misunderstanding with his unnamed wife who reported the issue to the Parks officials.
