Masvingo also had a decent outing in men’s volleyball when they played Manicaland Province in the finals.
Manicaland also won the men’s basketball tourney when they beat Matabeleland North.
Bulawayo came third.
The one-day event failed to finish early and some games were to be decided by aggregate scores.
The teachers took part in soccer, volleyball, athletics, netball, basketball, chess and darts.
Zimta secretary-general, Richard Gunda, said the event was a platform for interaction between teachers from various provinces.
“The annual event draws its participants from across the divide in Zimbabwe and is meant to be a social platform where members from the education sector converge for social interactions while indulging in body fitness activities such as sport.
“This year’s sporting event has coincided with the national census hence this has affected the usual participation of the teachers as traditionally educationists turn up in thousands for this event but Zimta is happy to be hosting its members for this important event.
“Members who will excel in the tournament will make it into the national teams which are set to proceed to Namibia at the end of this month,” Gunda said.
Zimta is the largest teacher trade union in Zimbabwe with more than 44 000 members.
