‘Maswanhise will move to a higher stage’

Zimbabwe International Tawanda Maswanhise could make a surprise move before tonight. This is despite Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou saying they are not concerned that the Zimbabwean striker will be flogged out.

Yet if the big money is shown, it could be another story.
Celtic and Blackburn Rovers are among the clubs linked to the 18-goal Motherwell striker.

Askou expects Maswanhise will move to a higher stage — but not in this window. Asked if he expects a worrying few days, he said: “No.

“JT’s goals are going to add value to him, the team and the club.
“We have a game on Wednesday and the business we plan to do doesn’t really involve him.

“I never said he wasn’t for sale, but I said we don’t have a plan to sell him now.
“That’s the plan we are following.

“Eventually, he is for sale, it’s just not now.
“He is adding value and he would love to be the Premiership’s top scorer.

“The best opportunity for him to do that is by staying with us until the summer, and then we will see what happens then.”

Last week, Kieron Bowie was sold to Verona for £6 million but Askou refused to be drawn on Well’s valuation of Maswanhise.

He said: “I am not going to indicate a number.
“Hibs are a different club and Bowie is a different player.

“The clubs looking for his profile are probably not looking at a player like JT.
“There is a big market for both players and congratulations to Bowie for a great deal.

“Eventually, we will say the same about Maswanhise and the club that signed him — but that’s not now.
“We will see how big an amount that is, but he’s adding value and that’s good for the Scottish market, that the fees are good.”

With just a few hours left in the window, Celtic will obviously be looking to add to their front line.
Martin O’Neill was pictured watching the Scottish Premiership’s top scorer in action a few weeks ago against Ross County.

But whether or not the Hoops will test the resolve of the North Lanarkshire side remains to be seen. –Zimpapers Sports Hub/thescottishsun.co.uk
