WARRIORS forward Tawanda Maswanhise has been named among the Most Promising Talents at AFCON 2025 that concluded on Sunday night with Senegal lifting the converted trophy after getting the better of hosts Morocco.
The Scotland based Maswanishe was recognized as a promising player for the Zimbabwe national football team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

His rise in the football world, particularly in the Scottish Premiership, has made him a standout performer.
Maswanhise’s direct running and pace earned him a place in the final Zimbabwe squad, and he was expected to make a significant impact in the tournament.
His recent performances and accolades, such as being named the Scottish Premiership Player of the Month and being a Top Goal Scorer highlighted his potential and contribution to the team’s success.
“Congratulations to Tawanda Maswanhise for being named among the Most Promising Talents at AFCON 2025. You are not just making history; you are inspiring it. Zimbabwe couldn’t be prouder,” said Zifa in a statement.
Meanwhile, in a final match that will be remembered as much for its explosive controversy as for its technical brilliance, Senegal secured their second TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title on Sunday night, defeating hosts Morocco 1–0 after extra time.
A stunning 94th minute extra time strike from Pape Gueye settled the contest at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, but only after the match nearly collapsed into farce during a chaotic end to regulation time.-@FungaiMuderere
