Report any road defects, public urged

Sikhumbuzo Moyo

THE Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has called on the public to be vigilant and report any signs of defects on the country’s roads.

Once reported, the scene will be attended to in the shortest possible time as the Ministry ensures that minor defects do not lead to major hazards that may result in accidents and loss of precious lives.

“The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development reaffirms its commitment to safe, reliable and well-maintained roads for all citizens. Our ongoing, significant investment in rehabilitating and maintaining the national road network is central to our mandate. To this end, the public is advised that urgent road defects on Regional, Primary, Secondary and Tertiary roads can be reported directly to our provincial roads engineers, as listed below,” said the Ministry in a statement posted on its X account.

It further said the public must become active partners in road maintenance by reporting potholes and urgent defects.

“Your vigilance is invaluable. Prompt reports enable faster response, efficient resource allocation and prevent minor issues from becoming hazards. As articulated by His Excellency, the President, Cde Dr E.D. Mnangagwa, our inclusive road efforts support the drive of leaving no one and no place behind,” said the Ministry.

The Ministry said dedicated hotlines have been established in every province, adding that the public must send clear photos or videos and the precise location where defects have been noted.
