adminThe celebrations are an annual event and coincide with President Mugabe’s birthday. They are meant to impart to the youths the principles and legacy of the President who turned 88 this year.
In an interview yesterday, Zanu-PF national secretary for youth Cde Absalom Sikhosana said the celebrations were a constant reminder of President Mugabe’s contribution in liberating the country and fostering its development.
“You are aware that after the main event the celebrations are supposed to cascade to provinces during the course of the year and in Matabeleland North it is coming tomorrow,” said Cde Sikhosana.
“The event is basically about defending and promoting the legacy and values of the people of this country as epitomised in the character of President Mugabe. What we are saying to young people is that the President is a role model that all of us should emulate.
“We urge the youths to have the kind of morality and selflessness that President Mugabe has. It is the time to look at the contribution that he has made. His discipline, honesty, uprightness and integrity are outstanding. We feel humbled by his attributes.”
Cde Sikhosana said the youths should follow President Mugabe’s footsteps in order to have a brighter future.
The national secretary for science and technology in the youth wing, Cde Nqabayezwe Maphosa, said scores of youths from the province and senior party leaders were expected to attend the event.
“This is a provincial celebration and we expect senior party leaders at national level to attend. A delegation of members of the national youth executive, provincial leaders and Politburo members are also expected to be there,” said Cde Maphosa.
Zanu-PF Matabeleland North provincial secretary for administration Cde Clifford Sibanda also said senior party leaders would attend the event.
