THE Zifa Matabeleland North Division Two League roars into life today with action taking place in Dete, Hwange and the resort town of Victoria Falls. The league’s resumption is expected to provide football entertainment, especially in the soccer crazy town of Hwange, as the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season has also burst into life, albeit with their beloved coalminers making a false start in the opening two matches.
Zifa Matabeleland North chairman Dennis Chuma said all was set for what should be an exciting 2016 season.
“Our league is starting tomorrow (today) and I’m sure we will have yet another exciting season. Action will be spread from Dete where we’ve a new team, Dete Hotspurs, and in Hwange and Victoria Falls. I’m happy that the thrust of spreading the game to areas outside Hwange and Victoria Falls is bearing fruit and we will continue to work on that project as we go forward.” said Chuma.
“The 14 teams that’re in action from today have all completed the registration requirements, but from next week we will be having two more teams, Silver Stars from Hwange and Corinthians from Victoria Falls, to complete the 16-team set up.”
In the only action today, fireworks are expected in Victoria Falls when Amagagasi Under-19 clash with Mosi Rovers.
Tomorrow, championship hopefuls Baobab Rovers will embark on the short trip to Dete to face new boys Dete Hotspurs.
In Victoria Falls, returnees Trumus Warriors will be locked in a fierce derby against Classic Luyando, with the coal mining town also witnessing what promises to be a cliff-hanger derby pitting Hwange Under-17 and Blackrock FC.
On Monday, Lukhosi Pirates, who had a remarkable spell in the second half of their maiden season last year, travel to Ingagula in Hwange for a tricky test of character.
