Mat South primary schools’ team picked

MATABELELAND South Province has selected the primary schools’ team to represent the province at the national ball games competitions to be held in Masvingo next week.The team will camp at Senondo Primary School in Gwanda until departure for Masvingo on Tuesday.

Names of the 78 selected participants for volleyball, basketball, soccer and netball were announced yesterday after the inter-district finals in the four disciplines at Pelandaba Stadium.

Volleyball games were played at Gwanda High School.

The province will have boys and girls’ teams for basketball and volleyball while netball will be played by girls only and boys will battle it out in soccer.

Officially opening the inter-district competitions, the guest of honour Matabeleland South provincial education director Tumisang Thabela challenged the selected team to prepare hard for the competitions.

“To the select team, remember that you represent Matabeleland South and we want positive results from Masvingo,” she said.

Thabela urged the team to be disciplined and support one another.

The inter-provincial competitions will run from July 22-25 and selected participants would proceed to Zambia for the Cossasa Games.
