UMGUZA Rural District Council is set to host the Matabeleland North premier investment conference this month in a development meant to promote rural industrialisation through the value addition of the resources found in the district.
The event, which will run from 11 to 12 July, will be held under the theme: “Driving Socio-Economic Growth Through Strategic Investments in Infrastructure and Value Addition.”
Addressing journalists yesterday, Umguza RDC acting chief executive officer Mr Vusa Sikhosana said hosting the Provincial Investment Conference in Umguza is both a strategic and symbolic decision.

He said Umguza is one of the fastest-growing rural districts in Matabeleland North, strategically located just outside Bulawayo, which serves as a gateway between urban and rural economies.
“This location provides a unique platform to showcase our district’s transformation potential, available land, proximity to markets, and untapped investment opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and tourism,” said Mr Sikhosana.
“We are proud to welcome delegates to a district that reflects the future of rural industrialisation and inclusive economic growth.”
He said Umguza has vast potential across sectors, which include agriculture, agro-processing, and housing infrastructure, among others.
“Our spatial development plan is aligned with national vision targets, making Umguza ready for sustainable investment,” he said.
Umguza’s development complements Matabeleland North’s broader investment vision of unlocking value from local resources through beneficiation and infrastructure-led growth.
The province is rich in natural resources – from coal in Hwange, methane gas in Lupane, timber in Binga, to fertile lands in Umguza and Bubi.
Hosting this conference in Umguza brings attention to inclusive development beyond the traditional hotspots, ensuring balanced provincial growth.
The district also aligns with national aspirations under Vision 2030 by promoting economic activities that create employment, ensure food security, and reduce poverty at local levels.
