COMMUNITY members and other stakeholders have gathered at Kombo Village 3, Ward 22 in Insiza District for the Matabeleland South National Fire Week launch.

The launch is hosted by the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) which has accelerated awareness campaigns aimed at curbing a surge in veld fire damage largely attributed to poaching, arson, and excessive biomass from above-normal rainfall.

To kick start the event community members demonstrated how to put out a fire using techniques they have been trained in.

The event was graced by the Minister of State for Provincial
Affairs and Devolution Albert Nguluvhe, who was represented by Director for Infrastructure Development, Mr Daniel Njowa.

The theme for 2026 is Prevent, Protect, Preserve: Combating Veld Fires Together.
