MATABELELAND Under-19s defeated Mashonaland Country Districts Undeer-19s in a Zimbabwe schools rugby national trials match of the day at Falcon College yesterday.

The national selectors are using the two-day inter-provincials to pick the national representative sides for the annual Under-18 Coca-Cola Craven Week and the Under-16 Grant Khomo Week in South Africa.

Matabeleland went ahead after three minutes, with left wing Sam Phiri going over the line for the first try and flyhalf Benjamin Meredith booting in the conversion kick.

Loosehead prop Ropafadzo Kwaramba picked up the first try for MCD after some sustained pressure, but the conversion kick was not successful.

Matabeleland continued with their dominance, which finally paid off 10 minutes into the second half when hooker Brian Muntanga scored their second try, whose conversion kick was missed by Meredith.

Lock Nathan Smit handed Matabeleland their third try, pushing over the line, with Meredith on target with the conversion kick.
