Matangaidze named new ZNCC chief

He will be deputised by Mr Davison Norupiri and supported by four national vice presidents.

Immediate past president Mr Binha said the four national vice presidents from the respective regional branches would be Mrs Divine Ndhlukula for Mashonaland, Mr Rowland Makaure for Matabeleland, Mr Obert Muzavazi for Manicaland and Dr Alvan Senderayi for Midlands. Below them will be regional chairpersons.

“As per the chamber’s tradition, the leadership is one that is of two by one terms and we cherish the norms we have religiously followed since time immemorial. I step down to join a legion of our other past presidents,” he said.

Mr Binha will, however, remain part of the national executive council to ensure a smooth transfer of the leadership of the chamber and may continue in the same capacity if there are no changes in the executive council.

He has extensive knowledge of the business grouping having risen through the ranks from being executive member at  branch/regional level, to becoming branch chairperson, national executive member, regional vice president, national deputy president until he was elected president two years back.

Mr Matangaidze said his immediate priority would be to consolidate the extent of engagements with Government in an effort to influence policy that has a bearing on factors troubling industry.

He singled issues around job losses, tariffs and wages and salary negotiations in the industry as some of the areas requiring immediate and continued engagement or discussions to remove their burden on business. “Hopefully, after the elections and soon thereafter we will push the business agenda forward. Because of the state of the economy the engagement with the Government is very important,” Mr Matangaidze said.

Mr Binha said he tried his best to perform his duty as per the national call and in trying to address the challenges faced by commerce and industry. He said ZNCC pitched the organisation well during his reign and appreciated support he received from the Government and other important stakeholders. Mr Binha said his wish was to see the continuation of the capacity development in the chamber.
