ZANU-PF Politburo member and Matabeleland North Governor Cde Thokozile Angela Mathuthu resoundingly won the Hwange Senatorial primary elections by 5 208 votes, beating Cde Grace Dube who managed just 1 872 votes. In an interview yesterday, Cde Mathuthu, expressed gratitude to party members for bestowing their confidence on her.
Earlier reports had indicated that Cde Mathuthu lost.
“I am grateful to the people who voted for me. The people who gave me a chance to lead and represent the party once again,” said Cde Mathuthu.
“To my competitors who could not make it I am saying they should not lose heart. There is always a next time.
“That was an internal contest. What is important now is to work together as a team and ensure that President Mugabe and Zanu-PF win resoundingly in the harmonised elections.”
Cde Mathuthu is among the Zanu-PF senior leaders in Matabeleland region who have won the just ended primary elections, which the party’s National Chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo has described as a moment of truth that has produced tried and tested leaders.
