MATIGIMU FINED AFTER FIERY THROW

ZIMBABWE fast bowler Kundai Matigimu has been fined for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct after a heated incident on the opening day of the second Test against South Africa at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

The pacer was docked 15 percent of his match fee for a Level 1 offence, which stems from an incident in the 72nd over of South Africa’s first innings.

After fielding a ball in his follow-through, Matigimu fired it back and struck batter Lhuan-de Pretorius on the wrist from close range.

The ICC confirmed that Matigimu had breached Article 2.9 of its Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

The clause deals with “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”

Matigimu admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Ranjan Madugalle of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel, meaning no formal hearing was required.

In addition to the fine, one demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record, his first such offence in the past 24 months. – ICC
