of the stars at the weekend gala held at City Pool.
The provincial team will take part in the National Senior Swimming Championships set for 17-20 February. Those who post good times will be eligible to represent the country at Level Three Swimming Champion-ships in South Africa. It is a competitive swimming gala that enables participants to compare themselves with those from neighbouring countries especially South Africa.
The southern neighbours have better infrastructure and because of a good economy, they even get exposure in North Africa and Europe.
Zimbabweans whose swimmers are sponsored by parents tend to have South Africa as their only hope for the next level of exposure. The country has had good stars like Mandy Leach and Kirsty Coventry who have done well for the nation in international competitions.
All the seven teams in the Matabeleland fraternity were at the gala described as successful by board chairman Eddie Cyprianos.
Luke Isemonger, Frank Lang and Andresious Cyprianos, the perennial good performers, will be hoping to make it into the provincial team. They had good swims at the weekend.
Among some of the star performers at the gala who won an event and were runners-up in others were Jamie Isemonger, Wandile Banda, Msongelwa Gugulethu, Jessica Hammond, Andy Cyprianos, Danny Cyprianos and Jaryd Lezar.
