Matsito’s son apologises to Macheso

MUCHAPEDZA Matsito Junior, the son of the late Ngwenya Brothers frontman Tedius Matsito, on Sunday publicly apologised to his mentor Alick Macheso for his unbecoming behaviour at Jongwe Corner.

Macheso looked after Matsito Jnr when his father died in 2009 and even taught him how to play guitars.

His wife, Nyadzisai Macheso, took him as her son and he would eat what Macheso’s sons — Esau and Tatenda — were also eating.

After learning the ropes, Matsito Jnr became a troubled soul and went on to betray the hand that fed him by his wayward antics.

Last Sunday, Matsito Junior appeared on stage at Macheso’s show, where he apologised.

“Baba Macheso looked after me and took me as his son but I am very sorry for what I did.

“I am very sorry for betraying my father Alick Macheso and I want him to accept me back.

“I feel I owe him a lot, but at the moment, I just ask for forgiveness because I misbehaved,” he said.

Macheso said:

“I used to look after him and the family when his father died, but I was disappointed by his behaviour.

“I will continue doing my best to assist him and this is the reason why he is on my stage.”

Macheso is credited with assisting Leonard Dembo’s sons — Morgan and Tendai — to revive their father’s band.

At one point Tendai stayed at Macheso’s house, honing his skills as a guitarist.

Tryson Chimbetu, the son of the late Marxist Brothers co-founder Naison, was also a beneficiary of Macheso’s mentorship.

“I didn’t get it on a silver platter, but there are people who sacrificed a lot for me to be where I am today,” said Macheso.

“As such, I feel obliged to help others and make a change in their careers.”
