and “Chisi”, which he says were inspired by the African lifestyle, people and the landscape.
In an interview with The Herald, Maumbe said he was homesick, a feeling that inspired him to compose the songs.
“I started singing in 2010 and as a person who has been in the Diaspora for 10 years I missed home and wondered about the prevailing environment back home in Zimbabwe.
“As a person who loves Chimurenga music I then approached one Gerald Thondlana who helped me record my first album, Africa,” he said.
In his music he compares life in New Zealand with that in Zimbabwe.
“I realised that life in Africa is preferable to that in New Zealand considering the climate, people and the peaceful environment,” he said.
Maumbe said his music has been received well in the country and hopes to spread his fame to Africa.
“My music is now popular in the Diaspora and I hope to do shows and collaborate with music legends such as Oliver Mtukudzi, Alick Macheso and other local artistes when I return home. He said he expects to do videos some of the songs on the album Africa soon. Maumbe said he is currently working on another album, which he expects to release sometime in November.
